The first month of 2016 was mainly going back to work and hanging out with relatives and nursing a cough-turned-cold-turned-fever :<

Here are the things that kept me happy last month:

2015 in Review

It’s been a good year. Here are some of my Big Ticket Items:

Career Shift

This year I left my very first job out of college and moved into a totally different industry. Ironically (?), it’s only now that I’m now in a career more related to my college degree.

The transition from working in an office to producing in a newsroom (on BUSINESS NEWS) was pretty crazy, and it took weeks for my body clock to adjust, but I’ve survived 6 months in.

There’s obviously a routine, which is pretty hard to go through at ungodly hours, but at least every day is very different. From the equipment to the actual stories, we never know what’s going to happen and that is exciting. I think both jobs were pretty high-stress, but at least a lot of aspects of my job at the Embassy come in handy once in a while.

One thing that made me realize that I was actually /happy/ in this job was a “Matt Lieber” at the end of one of an episode of Reply All, and it went: “Matt Lieber is a job that you love so much that you actually sort of forget to go outside.”

Even though I was sort of forced into staying inside for up to 15 or so hours because of my double-shift, it was pretty great being able to relate to that.

Visiting the Mothership

Another major highlight of the year was ~*~FINALLY~*~ travelling to my childhood dreamland.

Anime and Harry Potter were/are big influences on me so…from being able to brush up on my rudimentary Nihonggo in the wild–to making the pilgrimage to Hogwarts in Osaka, it was all a several dreams come true.

(Long overdue) breakdown of the trip to come in future blog posts.

Getting a Dog

Probably the biggest life-changer (no joke) this year was that on February 13, my parents *actually* let me take home Ginkgo–after months of begging.

Now when I see all those Facebook posts about animals and loving your pets, I SO GET IT.

It’s pretty amazing how much pure joy one tiny little furball can give me.

TV Shows

  • How To Get Away With Murder
  • KBS 프로듀사 (Producers)
  • She Was Pretty*
  • Friends

Definitely haven’t gotten to read, or even re-read, as much as I want to,  but earlier in the year I did get into some YA series that I didn’t expect to like as much as I did haha.

  • To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before, P.S. I Still Love You by Jenny Han
  • Vampire Academy
  • The Selection Series

And because this story will stay with me always:

It was the Year I Discovered Podcasts. Though I pretty much exclusively listen to the ones by Gimlet Media + their recommendations + Serial.

Here are some of my favorite episodes:

  • New cameras: Fuji X100T & Canon G7x
  • Canon Selphy Printer (2x) – my first one, a Pink one from Tokyo got stolen </3
  • Light blue Instax Mini 8 (2x) – first one also got stolen

And, according to Instagram:

Thank you, 2015.
